Fatherhood has changed more in the last decade than it has in a century. One thing hasn’t changed, though – and that’s the great advice they give. While these are not necessarily words of advice these dads have spoken to their children, I can imagine them becoming dadisms. Here are some of my favorites through the generations:

Millennials

As I learned from growing up, you don’t mess with your grandmother. – Prince William, Duke of Cambridge

 Gen X

Don’t ever think, no matter how old you are, that you don’t need to be coached. – Peyton Manning

 Baby Boomers

Ability may get you to the top, but it takes character to keep you there. – Stevie Wonder

 The Silent Generation

There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure. – Colin Powell

 The Greatest Generation

I can’t imagine a person becoming a success who doesn’t give this game of life everything he’s got. – Walter Cronkite

Times may change, and so might fatherhood, but some advice remains timeless.
